Hawksmoor's restaurant is the perfect meat specialists for meat-lovers and the perfect setting for a restaurant that is centred around tradition and gastronomy. Many people say, that here you can find the best steak in England (pink, tender, moist and velvety, with a charcoal grilled flavour and just incredible). The meat is offered in weight, so you choose your cut rump, bone in, sirloin, ribeye, portherhouse, etc. This encourages sharing and adds to uniqueness of the dining experience. The ambience is smart and the staff is friendly and charming.

As a matther of fact, they have teamed up with Tim Wilson, of the famous English butchery The Ginger Pig, to offer steaks come from his stock of 1,200 rare breed longhorns, they raise happy animals, which are fed grass, on prime land in North Yorkshire and Dorset. The Hawksmoor is one of very few restaurants they've agreed to supply to. On top of that, their cocktails are wide ranging, expertly made, and some have cute anecdotes attached. Highly recommended trying “The History of the Cocktail in Ten Drinks”.

Located in east London, just down the road from the Nicholas Hawksmoor’s Christ Church Spitalfields, 2 minutes walk from Shoreditch High Street and 10 minutes walk from Liverpool Street, Old Street and Aldgate stations. Spitalfields was their first restaurant, and the general view is that it is where the ‘Hawksmoor spirit’ is best embodied. Many of the staff have worked there for years and would never consider elsewhere. Great steaks, great drinks, amazing atmosphere, and people who really care whether you enjoy your evening.

Now a days there are five other restaurants in London: in Seven Dials, Air Street nearby Piccadilly Circus, Knightsbridge, Guildhall district of the City and Borough, near Borough Market. Hawksmoor also have two restaurants outside of London, Hawksmoor Manchester on Deansgate, near Spinningfields and Hawksmoor Edinburgh opened in 2018, just off St Andrews Square. Hawksmoor New York will be opening in 2020.

The restaurant was founded by Will Beckett and Huw Gott in 2006. They had previously worked in bars and kitchens in London's East End and opened their new bar/restaurant on Commercial Street there. Their plan was to offer high-quality, well-butchered beef, so they tasted a range of beef from all over the world, until coming to the conclusion that the best tasting steak was from the UK.

Their second branch in Seven Dials was opened in 2010. This was especially successful and the turnover of their company, Underdog, increased from £4 million to £11 million. In 2013, the founders sold a majority stake in the chain to the private equity group Graphite Capital investors in other London businesses such as the Groucho Club and Wagamama. The valuation was £35 million but the founders planned to continue to work and invest in the business.

The company has been ranked three star Sunday Times Best Companies for eight consecutive years (in 2014 was the best restaurant company to work for), three star Sustainable Restaurant Association award as well as being involved in variety of charity projects (predominantly for Action Against Hunger, for which Hawksmoor has raised/donated over £1m).

Giles Coren, reviewing the Seven Dials branch in The Times, praised it as "great, great steak. Best you’ll find anywhere. "...cooked medium rare at Hawksmoor's suggestion and had deep black charry cooking flavours and sweet pink fruity juices. The fillet was uncommonly flavourful, the sirloin unusually tender. There was no texture-taste compromise to consider, it was all good. All, all good".

Tom Parker Bowles, while reviewing the opening for Knightsbridge in 2014, summarised Hawksmooor restaurants as "(...) one of the best restaurant groups in the country, one that manages to mix the bracingly modern (brilliant, no-nonsense cocktails, unusual cuts of steak, beards, tattoos and east London soul) with the reassuringly traditional (proper service, reservations, serious wine list)".
