- History: My family's first contact with the world of viniculture was in 1961 when my father, Dino Carletti, bought 22 hectares of land in the Comune of Montepulciano. He planted the first specialty vineyards in the region. The inspiration for this investment came more from the heart than from economic motives. It was dictated by my father's desire to maintain a living contact with the place of his youth and the culture of his origins. Apart from its immediate impact on the direction of the company, this bond had a fundamental influence on my formative decisions, compelling me to take a degree in agriculture in Florence in 1978.

In the years immediately following, I held a professional post in an agricultural firm in Northern Italy. Although I wasn't occupied with viticulture, it gave me an opportunity to enrich my training with valuable work experience.

At the end of 1980, due to the economic crisis and the decline in consumption, I took on the challenge of directing my own company, bringing to it a modern production philosophy based on my personal vision of agriculture. Passion for the art of making wine immediately took hold and inspired me to learn about the most advanced techniques of international viticulture and oenology.

This led to the opening of a dialogue with industry specialists and colleagues in the Chianti Classico region that has become closer and more profitable with time. An essential factor at the beginning, was my friendship and collaboration with Doctor Carlo Ferrini, one of my university colleagues, as well as the invaluable counsel of Doctor Maurizio Castelli, a true master teacher who guided my first steps in the world of wine.

I soon understood that renewal of the company would only happen through a synthesis of courage, creativity and knowledge of the most advanced techniques. The result of this combination is the new viticulture of Poliziano. Thanks to it, our wines, which are strictly based on the use of Prugnolo Gentile, have demonstrated for at least ten years, a highly pleasing, international style, while maintaining a strong bond with their place of origin.

In over 20 years of vinicultural-oenological management of my company, I have never taken a decision based solely on market indications. Instead, my choices have been inspired by a passion for agriculture and the real excitement of imagining and conceiving a vine, a grape, a wine, and of watching them come to be after caring for them closely every step of the way. All this, combined with the fortunate surge in wine consumption, has contributed to the ascent of Estate Poliziano.

My objective for the future is to consolidate the distinctive character of the wines that will be produced from my new vineyards. To this end, I am dedicated to a continual and passionate search for every possibility of improving the quality of my wines.

- Winery: A Renaissance pearl, a papal city, a center of Etruscan origin. Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona. This is the historic terrain and culture of our wine. Nestled among hills and knolls, inspired by an ancient tradition of winemaking, our production of excellence has been cultivated here for over fifty years. Poliziano was started in 1961 with an initial nucleus of 22 hectares. It has grown over the years to reach its present size of 120 hectares, all planted in vineyards. Its name is an homage to the humanist poet Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494), known as "Il Poliziano", who was born in Montepulciano.

- Location: There are approximately 30 hectares of vineyards clustered around the winery's buildings as well as a number of individual properties that range in size from eight to thirty hectares; together these constitute the entire property. The vines are planted at altitudes ranging from 280 to 400 metres above sea level, in an environment that is well suited to them, with soil that is primarily volcanic clay and slightly rocky. The geological survey of the Comune of Montepulciano identifies the most important sections of our property with the names: Asinone, Caggiole, Valiano, Lama, Casale and Pozzi.

- Terre del Pliziano: At the end of the 1990s, always pursuing the philosophy of producing wines with grapes cultivated directly by our winery, we acquired lands in the communities of Cortona and Magliano in Tuscany.

Thus began the project "Terre del Poliziano" which has allowed for the production of the wines of Cortona DOC, Maremma DOC and  Morellino di Scansano DOCG, totally autonomous and created in their respective territories.

Our fundamental belief in the origin of wine remains whole in that we believe by showing our clients the characteristics relating to the terroir of origin, we can have success in the worldwide market.

The respect of the origin of the individual wines is the touchstone of the project "Terre del Poliziano."

VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a red wine with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montepulciano, Italy. The wine is made primarily from the Sangiovese grape varietal (known locally as Prugnolo gentile) (minimum 70%), blended with Canaiolo Nero (10%–20%) and small amounts of other local varieties such as Mammolo. The wine is aged for 2 years (at least 1 year in oak barrels); three years if it is a riserva. The wine should not be confused with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, a red wine made from the Montepulciano grape in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy.

- History: In a document dated 789, quoted by Emanuele Repetti in "Dizionario Geografico Fisico Storico della Toscana", the cleric Arnipert offers to the Church of San Silvestro in Lanciniano (Amiata area), farmland and a vineyard located in the Castello di Policiano; another document of 17 October 1350, also mentioned by Repetti, lays down the terms for trade and export of a wine produced in the Montepulciano area.

In 1685 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is also mentioned by the poet Francesco Redi, who, in addition to praising the work of Bacchus in Tuscany (Montepulciano is the king of all wines!), wrote an ode to Count Federico Veterani dedicated exclusively to praise of the qualities of this wine.

The name Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was invented by Adamo Fanetti. Until 1930 and beyond, the wine was officially called "Vino rosso scelto di Montepulciano," but Adamo called his wine “nobile” (noble). In 1925, Adamo Fanetti produced about 30 tons of Nobile, all bottled and sold for two ITLire a bottle. It was greatly appreciated. Its increased success was seen at the first trade show of wine held in Siena in 1931, organized by Ente Mostra-Mercato Nazionale dei Vini Tipici e Pregiati, when Mr. Tancredi Biondi-Santi, a friend and admirer of Adamo Fanetti, said prophetically: "this wine will have a future. Fanetti must be considered the first producer of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. 'Cantine Fanetti' has promoted Vino Nobile di Montepulciano all over the world in the years following World War I, and in the years of the "economic miracle" after World War II. Other companies, which until that date had produced mostly Chianti, followed Adamo's example and in 1937 founded a 'Cantina Sociale' (Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano) with the intention of creating a structure for the marketing of wine produced even by small farmers.

The wine produced in Montepulciano continued to be appreciated, and over time it obtained the DOC Denominazione di Origine Controllata (Denomination of Controlled Origin) with DPR July 12, 1966. The DOCG Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was authorized by DPR July 1, 1980 and modified by DM July 27, 1999.

The industry in the wine-producing town of Montepulciano produces a number of different wines:
- Novello (produced not only in this specific region)
- Rosso di Montepulciano - The wine is made primarily from the Sangiovese grape varietal (known locally as Prugnolo gentile) (minimum 70%), blended with Canaiolo Nero (10%–20%) and small amounts of other local varieties such as Mammolo. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 1 year.
- Nobile di Montepulciano
- Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva
- Grappa- By Italian law, the same company cannot be both a certified winery and a certified distillery, therefore, the Grappa is produced in cooperation, but, is usually sold by the winery and bears the winery name on its label.
